So we celebrated Christmas with the girls on Sunday. Elise had such a great time opening all the gifts. She is feeling better everyday and eating really really well. We are withholding her from school this month and are going to repeat her flu shot and start her on the rsv vaccine each month for the remainder of the school year. She is back to being potty trained but is still having trouble going to bed at night. She is off oxygen unless she runs around then she desats. She is doing well with therapy and her speech is getting back to normal. I'll post again next weekend.

Friday

Elise continues to slowly improve. Her appetite really took off Wednesday and she continues to eat enough that I'm not having to give her pediasure. She is still having a lot of separation anxiety and is stuck to my side like Velcro. She also continues to be afraid to sleep in her room and requires Ativan and me sitting in her room until she falls asleep. She remains on oxygen during the day while she is active, but is able to sleep without it.

We are going to keep her out of school this month as she regains her strength and continues to heal. We will re-evaluate next month. I'll post again next Friday. Have a great weekend.

Happy new year

So we have been home since Sat. evening and my mom went back home yesterday. So we r still getting back into our normal routine. Elise continues to slowly improve. Today is the first day she hasn't needed Ativan to help her get through her withdrawal symptoms. She is eating more and more each day, although its still barely enough to sustain a bird let alone a 4 year old. Yesterday I started giving her pediasure mixed with carnation instant breakfast in a syringe about every hour to keep her going. It seems to be working well.
She is having some regression with her speech. She mainly repeats the same phrase over and over or just repeats "mommy" not knowing what to say next. We are hoping this is temporary and a side effect of the narcotics. She is also having to relearn how to use the potty. She had to be put in diapers while intubated and it looks like she has forgotten or isn't able to control her bowels.
We had some friends over last night trying to return to some normalcy and Elise really seemed to enjoy everyone being here although she didn't really interact with anyone. I'll post again at the end of the week. Happy new year!
